I must say i’ve been a bit perplexed lately with all of the daft articles written about William & Kate slacking off on their Royal engagements. I’ve read about St Patrick’s Day, when Kate was to go along and present the Shamrock to the Irish Guards alongside her husband Prince William, but chose to be with her children instead. Prince William was still there, and it looks like a jolly good time was had by all – with both William and the soldiers looking relaxed and jovial. (And by the looks of these strapping men, I can hardly see them slipping off for a quick grizzle into their hankies because the Duchess was unable to attend.) Rather, I suspect, think on in admiration of the fact that she realised that the Duke would still be there to show his thanks and respect, and that she had decided to prioritise her young family. Irish families are as strong on traditional family values, as the rest of us. Recently, this ‘misdeed’ has been turned into somewhat of a ‘travesty’ in print by some respected journos who should know better really.

The other ‘misdeed’ I read about was when Prince William did not attend the BAFTA’s. Perhaps he thought it was more important to have a meal with his family, or read Prince George and Princess Charlotte a bedtime story, (and wouldn’t we all surely hope that would take priority?)

You can’t win with us Brits. We’ve moaned in the past when we thought that some Royals have left their babies for too long when travelling away from home. We’ve grumbled when they show they care about the Country by deeming to be ever-so-slightly engaged in what is going on (when they are supposed to steer clear of ‘that kind of thing’ i.e. anything deemed slightly political). And then we cry when the adverse publicity generated by the harshness of the media spotlight eventually takes its toll on someone much loved, taking them away from us forever, as in the case of Princess Diana.

William and Kate are doing a great job. Perhaps instead of keeping on ‘having a pop’ at them, we should find comfort in the fact that they are a little family who are doing their best to be a good mother and father, as well as a good future King and Queen. How difficult must this be, with the press constantly snapping at their heels? (I always think that before you write or say something about someone else, you should always try and put yourself in their shoes first.)

Also, what’s wrong with Kate writing for the Huffington Post? She wasn’t selling a clothing line, she was discussing her Children’s Mental Health Charity. All good surely? The American’s love William, Kate, and their little family, as do many other Countries across the World. Why be so covetous?

We’re just lucky that these two have broad enough shoulders to shrug off these kinds of insignificant, silly comments in favour of focusing on the most important role they will ever have to undertake. That of raising happy, well-adjusted children, our Royal heirs.
