Glenn Martens by Natalie Weiss

Originating from Bruges, Belgium, Glenn Martens
graduated first in his class from the internationally
acclaimed fashion institute The Royal Academy of
Fine Arts, Antwerp. In 2008, during his final year at the
academy, he was recruited to join the team of Jean-
Paul Gaultier for the women’s pre-collection in addition
to the men’s label “G2”.

In mid-2010, after a successful run as first assistant to independent designer Yohan Serfaty, Martens worked independently on various high-profile projects affiliated with European brands such as Weekday (H&M) and Honest By Bruno Pieters. In February 2012, he launched his Womenswear line during the Paris Fashion Week under the name “Glenn Martens”. Since September 2013, Glenn Martens is leading the men and womenswear of the Parisian based label

Graphic tailoring woven into structural elegance
characterizes his designs. Martens’ work bridges a technical background and emotional atmosphere with a straightforward look. Culminating in architectural cuts that boast a comfortable fit, the foundation of Glenn Martens resides and relies on transcendent versatility.

By Bruno Pieters.

“Living in Paris, I’m surrounded by kids of the 80’s and the 90’s. They’ve all raved into adulthood and are now veritable workaholics, respected, nailing every single step of their lives. Nevertheless, at times, it’s clear that they have not forgotten the explosive charges of their past.”

Y/PROJECT SS15 focuses on a regeneration of shapes and constructions, combining new cuts and volumes of the label’s signature pieces that deliver a contemporary, urban look. The collection provides a complete silhouette moving between sport, street and a minimal sophistication.

This season’s color palette catches lights through an intriguing game of reflective materials, balanced with bright yellow, flashes of white and sand tones. A ‘trompe l’oeil’ effect of multicolored “faux-drapés” is the base of this season’s silk & jersey prints.

Y/PROJECT SS15 is all about different types of linens: technically bonded, waxed and oiled. This playful game of coatings brings accents of lights and depths into the darker tones of the collection. Key-pieces go from reflective parkas, suede drawstring shorts, transparent cycling tops, denim perfectos, waxed leather jeans and jackets, paneled silk & linen trench
coats and suits.

Through a mix of expertise cuts and the elaborate choice of fabrics, the Y/PROJECT silhouette features elegant fluidity punctuated by razor sharpness.
Graphic tailoring woven into structural elegance characterizes the Y/PROJECT signature design. Each collection bridges technical expertise and emotional atmosphere with a straightforward look. Culminating in architectural cuts that boast a comfortable fit, the foundation of Y/PROJECT resides and relies on transcendent versatility.
