MIHARAYASUHIRO SPRING / SUMMER 2014

PHOENIX / HI NO TORI

Miharayasuhiro has taken his inspiration from the celebrated manga series, ‘Hi no Tori’ “bird of fire,’ created by famous Japanese writer Osamu Tezuka for his Spring/Summer 2014 men’s collection.

‘Hi no Tori’ celebrates the phoenix – known for its immortality and never ending reincarnation and its own ability to be reborn from its self-combusted ashes. Tezuka considered the phoenix as his life’s work, interpreted over 12 books, each telling the continuing tale of the phoenix, famed for having eternal life.

Osamu Tezuka’s stories observe the phoenix and the human inability to recognise the repeated mistakes committed throughout history, with the hope that one day all will be right with the world.
Miharayasuhiro has collaborated with Tsukumo on his leatherwork and has incorporated Tumi Nishijin fine Oriental silks into the craftsmanship of the collection. The collection references the mythological characteristics of the phoenix to create a print which is developed throughout the collection.

Post Tsunami Japan is still feeling the effects of the Fukushima nuclear disaster and the phoenix symbol within the collection is to offer a prayer to phoenix’s sprit and that Japan will rise from the ashes with renewed strength and beauty.
