John Rocha Autumn Winter 2012

Drawing inspiration from beloved memories of Hong Kong’s Happy Valley
Race Track and the patterns and colours of Sean Scully’s canvasses, the
Autumn Winter 12 collection continues John Rocha’s exploration of surface
and silhouette through the things he loves most.

John’s palette is, as ever, grounded in black in all it’s depths, through silk
georgette, lace and devore, felted wools, cashmere, marabou and Mongolian
lambskin. While a winter landscape of green, loden, gold and navy is worked
through in silk taffetas, satins and velvets.

The silhouette is at once sporty and elegant, with patchworked seams
panelling the form in lean sweeping dresses and skirts, and structured
generous volume wrought in taffeta and satin coats and jackets.

Throughout the collection surfaces are densely worked in tone on tone
crewelwork, patchworks and hand crochet and fantastical 3D blooms that lend
an elegance an edgy couture sensibility.

Blurring the senses between fragile and bold, there is a natural duality in the
collection, as John creates an atmosphere of rock and roll romanticism, his
women appearing at once wild and beautiful, a little haughty yet tender.
