ELISE CHRISTIE RECEIVES A YELLOW CARD IN THE 1000 M SHORT TRACK HEATS, BUT A GOLD MEDAL FOR RESILIENCE

Elise Christie Has Spent The Last Few Days Recouperating Since Her Disappointment In The 500 M Short Track Heat Collision. It Was Touch And Go Right Until The Last Minute As To Whether Elise Would Be Able To Race, Having Sustained Considerable Soft Tissue Damage To Her Ankle.

You Could See She Was Slightly Uncomfortable When She Got Onto The Ice,

Elise Christie 40

But Obviously Managed To Put The Pain Aside, And Got Off To A Flying Start,

Elise Christie 38

But Sadly Collided With Hungary’s Andrea Kezler Shortly Afterwards,

Elise Christie 31

Falling Down Onto The Ice And Sliding Over To The Barrier.

Elise Christie 32

But Amazingly She Did Not Let This Hold Her Back… Instead She Lifted Up Her Skates For Her Coach To Check, And Made It Clear That She Wished To Go Again!!

Elise Christie 42

This Time, She Started Off Warily, Staying At The Back To Start With, Slowly Moving Her Way Up To The Front, Seemingly ‘Tip-Toeing’ Between The Other Athletes To Avoid Any Additional Confrontation (And Pain.)

Elise Christie 33

However, Despite Gallantly Finishing In The Top Two, She Was Awarded A Yellow Card, And Disqualified From The Race For An “Unsafe Manoeuvre”.

Elise Christie 34

After The Race, Elise Said:-

“To be honest, a few days ago I didn’t think I’d be getting on the ice. I did everything I could to change it around. I had ligament damage and putting skates on wasn’t comfortable. We did everything but it obviously wasn’t meant to be.

Elise Christie 43

If It was another competition I wouldn’t have got on the ice. The only reason I was given a choice was because it’s the Olympics.

I trained all my life for this. It was everything to me. It’s done. I don’t know, I felt I owed it to Britain. I want to get out there. It’s an amazing sport but sometimes it does this to you.”

Well Elise, In This Brutal, And Quite Frankly Baffling Sport (When It Comes To The Rules Anyway,) You Have Absolutely Tried Your Very Best! There Is Nothing More That We Could Have Asked Of You.

You May Not Have Won The Gold Medal On The Ice,

Elise Christie 37

But You Absolutely Did For Your Grit, Bravery & Utterly Resilient Spirit…!

We are Very, Very Proud…!
