World Para-Athletics Championships 2017
Many Congratulations To All Athletes At The World Para-Athletics Championships For Their Magnificent Efforts! It Was Plain To See That Everyone Had Truly Tried Their Very Best! Great Britain Finished With 18 Golds, 8 Silver And 13 Bronze Medals…!!!
Britain’s 11-time Paralympic Champion Baroness Grey-Thompson said: “Britain have done fantastically well. I don’t think there’s been too many surprises from the British team in terms of where medals have come from. It’s all about the Tokyo 2020 cycle and this is a stepping stone to the next Paralympics.”
GB Head Coach Paula Dunn said: “A year after the Paralympic Games we are in a strong position. This is a very highly motivated group of people. We are all working together and they know what they need to do to achieve their goals in Tokyo and what they need to work on.”
Sammy Kinghorn stormed to victory once again winning a second Gold Medal of the Championships on the last day in the Women’s T53 100 m!
Sammy had already won a Superb Gold in the 200 m earlier in the week!

Jordan Howe won a Stunning Silver in the Men’s T35 100m
Mickey Bushell, 2012 Paralympic gold medallist, also won a superb Silver Medal in the Men’s T53 100m

Many Congratulations to Aled Davies who tonight beat his own record of 16.3 m – throwing a fantastic distance of 17.52 m in the Men’s T3 800 m!
Afterwards, standing alongside best pal Jonnie Peacock when being interviewed you could see the excitement in his face by what he had just achieved, and also when discussing what was to come in the future. He said that he was truly happy about his achievement, and totally excited about competing in Tokyo – beaming from ear to ear. Well done Aled!!
Georgie Hermitage has just run a powerful race, winning her second Gold Medal of the Championships in the T37 100 m!
Afterwards, Georgie said that she felt that she didn’t have the best start, but was delighted on her win! Well it all looked pretty good to us Georgie!!

Many Congratulations to Sophie Hahn, who has just won her second Gold Medal of the World Para-Athletics Championships in the T38 100 m
Sophie took off like a rocket from the very start, racing strongly throughout, crossing the line in 12.44
Kadeena Cox came second winning a spectacular Silver in 13.07

Many Congratulations to Kadeena Cox tonight for winning Gold in the T38 400 m at the World Para-Athletics Championships in London.
Kadeena is always so positive, funny, and amazingly humble! She said she thought she might be doing well, but 100 m before the finish line, she thought “Gosh, i’m not going anywhere”, but soon stormed to victory (obviously not realising that she was ahead of everyone else.) Stay tuned for more….!
Many Congratulations to Georgie Hermitage and ‘Hurricane Hannah’ Cockroft who triumphed to Gold last night at the World Para-Athletics Championships!
Hannah stormed to victory once again in the T34 400 m to win her third Gold Medal of the Championships!!
with her compatriot Kare Adenegan coming third winning another superb Bronze!
Georgie Hermitage raced strongly, storming to victory in the T37 400 m, thereby retaining the crown which she won two years ago.
Richard Chiassaro, won a bronze in the Men’s T54 400 m final, (finishing ahead of Switzerland’s Marcel Hug by two hundredths of a second!)
Stephen Miller won a superb Bronze Medal in the Men’s F32 Club Throw!
Isaac Towers also won a Bronze, in the Men’s T34 800 m final!
And Kyron Duke won a silver for Great Britain in the F41 shot put. Kyron threw a whopping 12.28 m!

Maria Lyle and Sammy Kinghorn both won superb Bronze Medals on day six of the World Para-Athletics Championships.
It was Maria’s second bronze medal of the Games! She raced strongly, finishing third in the T35 100 m.
Sammy Kinghorn also put in a strong performance, finishing third in the T53 400 m, adding her new bronze medal to the spectacular gold medal which she won in the 200 m earlier in the Games!
America’s Tatyana McFadden won her 15th career World title, storming to victory in the T54 800 m, winning another Gold to add to her collection.

Hannah Cockroft triumphed again recently, winning another Gold for Great Britain on day four of the World Para-Athletic Championships in the T34 800 m.

Hannah’s compatriot Kare Adenegan finished third, winning a bronze medal to add to the silver which she won recently!
Sophie Kamlish won the first Gold of her career in the T43/T44 100 m final after setting a World Record in the heats.

Richard Whitehead has won a bronze in the 100 m!

Richard Chiassaro crashed out of the T54 1500 m, (with quite a few other athletes), but still managed to finish in fifth place. It actually looked like quite a bad crash, but everyone was soon up again.
David Weir said that Richard Chiassaro was a bit unlucky, and it looked as though he didn’t hit his compensator hard enough, and went into the back of Marcel’s wheels. But said that Richard looked a bit caught on the inside and that he would never choose to race on the inside lane for exactly this reason.

Jonnie Peacock triumphed in the men’s 100 m T44 final tonight in 10.75 seconds, winning yet another Gold Medal for Great Britain!
Jonnie ran a fantastic heat earlier in the evening, and David Weir (who was commentating), was asked how he thought Jonnie would re-act in the final. David replied “with confidence and professionalism” and he wasn’t wrong. It was a superb victory, with a focused and beaming Jonnie finishing far ahead of anyone else.

Maria Lyle won a spectacular Bronze medal earlier this evening in the T35 200 m final.

Many Congratulations to Aled Davies who won his third World title in the F42 Discus today at the World Para-Athletics Championships in London
Aled, who is the London 2012 Champion and World Record Holder threw a whopping 51.54 m!
Well Done Aled!
Many Congratulations to Hollie Arnold who won the F46 Javelin Gold with a World Record throw.
Hollie triumphed yesterday, breaking her own World Record by 1 cm to add to her Gold Medals at Rio. Afterwards Hollie said “I feel amazing. I had a great set of throws and i’m so pleased. I gave it my absolute best. It’s surreal.”

and, Sammy Kinghorn,
who triumphed to Gold in the 200 m, with World Record performances and outstanding times in the T38 and T53 categories (respectively). Sammy broke her own World Record with a time of 28.61 seconds, (upgrading from her bronze at the 2015 championships).
Also, many congratulations to bubbly Kadeena Cox (who won Golds in Cycling and Athletics in Rio), and won a superb Bronze medal yesterday in the 200 m.
What a fantastic race Richard Whitehead has just run at the 2017 World Para-Athletic Championships! He stormed to victory in a magnificent time of 23.26 seconds in the 200 m T42 final! Britain’s Dave Henson came third with 24.73 seconds!

Many Congratulations to Stef Reid, who won another Gold Medal for Great Britain today at the World Para-Athletics Championships in London, triumphing in the T44 long jump.
Stef jumped an amazing 5.40 m! The Netherlands’ Marlene van Gansewinkel won the Silver with 5.29 m, and Japan’s Maya Nakanishi won bronze with 5 m.
Many Congratulations to Hannah Cockroft who has triumphed to Gold in 17.18 seconds in the T34 100 m at the World Para-athletics Championships in London’s Olympic Stadium tonight, setting a new World record! As well as five Paralympic gold medals, Hannah also has eight World titles.
Fellow British Paralympic athlete Kare Adenegan won the silver medal in fanstastic style.
Hannah said after the race “I’ve still got two more races left and they’re the hard ones”. (She is referring to the 400m and the 800m races to come.) Many congratulations Hannah and Kare!!
