The Shape Of Things To Come – Autumn/Winter 2010/11 – By Amanda Waters

The Shape Of Things To ComeThe great and the good turned out for London Fashion Week to see the designs that will set the scene for this autumn and winter. Amanda Waters, of of Fashion Show Images was there for all the action.

London Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter 2010/11 Collections kicked off with an extremely glamorous collection by Paul Costelloe, which was inspired by ‘The Assassination of Jesse James’.  A truly mesmerising collection. Caroline Charles followed with her take on Autumn/Winter, which was fun and comfortable looking, yet extremely stylish. Nicole Farhi’s collection was edgy, and elegant.  Leather dresses and skirts in blacks and reds were worn over footless tights, and looked fabulous. John Rocha, showed a mostly black collection with an occasional injection of pale pink and cream. Outfits contrasted beautifully together . It was magnificently tailored and chic. Jaeger’s show seemed to fall back in line with it’s more traditional market.  I found myself finding comfort in the familiar, and feeling happily that this is the Jaeger style which we know and love. The artistry behind the Kinder Aggugini show was jaw-dropping from beginning to end.  Inspired by ‘The Napoleonic Salon Scene’, the collection had a distinctly military flavour.  The show was encapsulating, the garments luxurious. PPQ’s collection consisted purely of blacks and golds, which only added to the desirability, in the form of luxurious black velvets, gold lamé and lashings of taffeta.  Burberry also had a military theme to its collection, and models wore sheepskin lined aviator styled ‘biggles’  jackets with large collars. Lace dresses added femininity to the collection, and were accessorised with long snakeskin boots.  Jasper Conran’s artistically inspired collection was so feminine, vibrant, and well-cut, it was hard to forget.

What we will wear this Winter.

Fashionistas were glued to the catwalk for the Autumn/Winter  2010/11 collections at London Fashion Week. Here is our quick guide to some of the shows:

1. Caroline Charles: Fun, warm and comfortable looking.

2. Jaeger: Back in line with its more traditional market.

3. Jasper Conran: Feminine, vibrant and well-cut. Sleek and entirely memorable.

4. John Rocha: A mostly black collection with an occasional injection of pale pinks and creams. Supreme tailoring.

5. PPQ: Purely blacks and golds. More forgiving for those of us who are not models.

6. Paul Costelloe: Inspired by The Assassination of Jesse James. Elaborate golds and blacks juxtaposed with checks.

7. Nicole Farhi: Edgy and elegant. Leather in blacks and reds over footless tights looked fabulous.
