A two-minute silence was held yesterday at the start of the Notting Hill Carnival, giving attendees a chance to pay their respects to the victims of the Grenfell Tower Fire Tragedy.
There were tears from the crowd, and much love for the Firefighters for their outstanding courage, with people clapping and hugging them.
Earlier, many people joined London Mayor Sadiq Khan in releasing white doves as a mark of respect to those who died.
The Mayor was joined by the leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council Elizabeth Campbell, local MP Emma Dent Coad, and many, many local residents, including survivors of the fire, those who have lost family members, and witnesses who will never forget what they saw.
An area of quiet reflection has been marked out for the Carnival attendees to pay their respects to the victims, and a special area has been dedicated for people to leave their own tributes.
Green has appeared everywhere in varying garbs and decoration, as people have been encouraged to go “Green for Grenfell”,
as a symbol of respect for the victims amidst the merriment.
Another two minute silence was held at 3.00 p.m. again today, giving everyone attending the event an opportunity to pay their respects to the victims.
