Fashion From Around The World – By Amanda Waters
After the sizzling success of London Fashion Week, we ‘had the bug’,and felt we had to pay a visit to Lisbon Fashion Week, which is renowned for its glamour and innovation, but is sometimes slightly overlooked in the race to cover the ‘Main Four’ – New York, London,Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.
It was a truly thought-provoking week, as the designers had ‘dug deep’ for inspiration which was reflected in their collections to provide a dazzling fusion of colour and creativity which had us enthralled from start to finish – and on more than one occasion reaching for our credit cards!
Katty Xiomara’s ‘floral’ inspired collection was fluid and feminine, the TM Collection of linen prints, with embellishment of metallics in gold, silver and copper, and sequins, beads and raffia, which was entitled ‘Spirits Speak’ was, in fact, ‘haunting’, and Filipe Faisca’s collection of geographic prints, and silk jersey fabrics, silk china crepe, and raffia, was chic and contemporary.
Ricardo Preto showed an elegant collection of saffron yellow, grey, amethyst, red and beige toned chiffon and jersey shorts, tailored pants, suits and long gowns, which looked well tailored, yet comfortable, and Ricardo Dourado’s collection of silks, tie-dyed cottons, sequins and silk jersey, in both maxi and mini combinations, but all worn with extremely high wedges, was stunning. The Collection will be a sure-fire hit with the ‘bright young things’ for Spring/Summer 2010! (Although he based this collection on the grunge scene from the beginning of the 90′s).
Ana Salazar’s pieces were light and fluid, and included jersey knits, silks and chiffons in a colour palette of cobalt blue, brilliant black and citric green. Each piece was flirtatious, and fun, and fit in all the right places. A collection which truly had a stunning piece for everyone!
Alexandra Moura focused her mostly red collection of leather dresses, shorts and pantaloons on strength, love and joy for life, and Aleksandar Protic’s collection of nudes, soft pinks and beige was delicate and extremely feminine. CIA.Maritima showed a light collection of beachwear and cover-ups, including a stunning silk all-in-one catsuit, and other ‘flowing, sensual pieces’,and another ‘winner’ of the week was Jose Tenente with his 70′s Disco inspired collection of printed chiffons, and lurexin scarlet, fuchsia, and violet.
There were many other fantastic designers also, which we have not had time to feature, including the amazing Dino Alves, Nuno Gama,Miguel Vieira, Pedro Pedro, Hello Kitty, Lara Torres, A Forest Design, Luis Buchinho, Nuno Baltazar, White Tent, Vitor, and Adidas Originals.
