The Queen made a statement offering her condolences to the victims of Hurricane Harvey on Friday, saying that she was “deeply saddened” by the devastation in the aftermath of the storm.
The Queen said “I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and the devastation following the recent terrible floods caused by Hurricane Harvey. Prince Philip and I send our sincere condolences to the victims of this disaster, to those who have lost loved ones, and to those who have seen their homes and property destroyed. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected.”
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump made another visit to Texas yesterday, to Houston and Lake Charles, Louisiana, to ‘roll-up their sleeves’, and spend some quality time with some of the displaced families, help to distribute food, and toys,
and meet some of the incredible volunteers.
The President and First Lady took much time comforting the children, and family members and congratulating the volunteers, although everyone looked so happy to see them, that it was already ‘job done’ as soon as they had walked through the door.
The President cupped a small boy’s face in his hands,
and he also picked one baby up into his arms and gave her a kiss
whilst another boy put his arm around the President, holding on to him tightly.
The First Lady Melania cuddled the volunteers and family members, and both the President and First Lady, handed out food to everyone and also colouring books and crayons to all the children
The President congratulated the Governor and Volunteers, saying “I want to congratulate the Governor,” and went on to say “I want to congratulate everybody that’s worked so hard. It’s been an incredible five, six days. It seems like it’s been much longer than that, but actually it’s going so well that it’s going fast, in a certain sense.”
The President and the First Lady then helped load small boxes of medicine
and bottles of water into pick-up trucks and minivans, with the President saying
to one of the volunteers “I like doing this – I like it.”
Team-Work At It’s Very Best….!
PRESIDENT TRUMP & FIRST LADY MELANIA TRUMP VISITED TEXAS ON TUESDAY TO SEE THE DEVASTATION FOR THEMSELVES
Hurricane Harvey has affected both Texas and now Louisiana, leaving 46 people dead in it’s wake, and causing billions of dollars of damage and heartbreak.
THE TRIUMPH OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT
As the President has since said himself the resilience of the Human Spirit was hugely apparent wherever people needed help. Neighbours came together to offer their help and support to each other wherever they possibly could, “with real compassion”, with the President also saying, “When one American suffers – we all suffer”.
Civilians went from house to house knocking on each other’s doors in efforts to help those in need,
and rescue them wherever possible, and their animals, either on their own boats,
and if that was not possible, on their backs and in their arms.
Civilians, Police and Soldiers have all worked harmoniously together
communicating seamlessly as to where they are needed, however great (or small) that need may be
Relief centres have been set up,
where donations of clothing, food and water soon started pouring in
The utmost care was paid to those with particular needs,
making sure people were as comfortable as possible
and special areas were even prepared for those with pets so that they
could stay together in many instances.
The devastation has been immense and heartbreaking for many, many people,
but once again, people have come together and helped each other as
best they can in catastrophic conditions,
proving yet again that through the very worst of situations, you also see the very best in humanity.
President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are scheduled to make another visit today (Saturday) to see what more they can do to help.
President Trump is expected to request $7.85 billion from Congress in emergency relief funding, and has donated $1 billion dollars of his own money already for immediate assistance.
