Sierra Leone has appealed for “urgent support” for the many thousands of people who have been overwhelmed by the terrible mudslides and flooding.
Ernest Bai Koroma said that entire communities had been wiped out and he said “the devastation is overwhelming us.”
The muddy floodwaters have caused devastation, and it is estimated that over 3,000 people are now in need of care and accomodation, and that around 600 people are still missing.
People were killed as they slept and then swept away in the water last night. The Red Cross, said that 312 bodies had been recovered on Monday, and that it was struggling to get equipment in to extricate the dead bodies that are buried in the mud, and that an estimated 600 people are still missing.

Nearly 400 people have been killed and hundreds more are missing after muddy rubble swept through the Regent area near the capital, Freetown, on Monday.
A mass burial of victims is planned to free up space in mortuaries.
Dozens more bodies were discovered on Tuesday as rescue efforts to recover people from destroyed houses in the area continue.

The aid agency added that an estimated 600 people were still missing.
