Sarah raced superbly in the sweltering conditions, and finished in 2 hours, 15 minutes and 42 seconds!  This is Sarah’s 14th Gold Medal in total, and her 3rd Gold Medal of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games!  Sarah is the most successful British Female Paralympian of all time!

  Many Congratulations to Hannah Cockroft For Winning Her Third Gold in Rio Last Night, Which Saw Britain Match Their Medal Haul of 120 Medals from London 2012.

Hannah Stormed to victory in the T34 800m race, and her team-mate Kare Adenegan won the Bronze, which then overtook the ParalympicsGB Medal tally for London 2012.

Many Congratulations to Paul Blake Who Won ParalympicsGB’s 50th Gold Medal This Afternoon in the T36 400m, in a fantastic time of 54.49 seconds.

After the race, Paul said “I’m lost for words.  In 2012 I was fortunate enough to get silver and bronze, but i’ve finally done it and got gold and all the hard work has paid off.  It’s not the ideal lane, running from lane eight, but I just got on with it.  I’m just going to rest up now and then bring on the 800m tomorrow!”

Sophie was very emotional afterwards saying “There are no words out there to describe how i’m feeling right now.  I’m so proud of him and my support team for being able to go out there and do it when it mattered.”

Sophie went on to say “During the test you just think about each movement as it comes, but when we finished there was a surge of emotion that he just couldn’t have done anything more.  I started crying and haven’t stopped since!”  No wonder!!  It seems the wonderful Valerius really had tried his very, very best for Sophie!

Many Congratulations to Kadeena Cox who won her second Gold Medal of the Rio 2016 Paralympics yesterday, having already won the track cycling C4-5 time trial earlier in the games.

2016 Rio Paralympics - Day 7

Kadeena set a world record of one minute 0.71 seconds to win the Gold Medal in the T38 400m in athletics.  Kadeena is the first Briton to win Gold Medals in two sports at one Games in 32 years!

Kadeena was simply ‘too cool for school’ as she powered down the track, not even glancing around her, totally focused on the race, and looked as though she actually speeded up in the last 50 metres!

Many Congratulations to Dame Sarah Storey who won her 13th gold medal in the Cycling C5 time trial yesterday.

Sarah has now won her second Gold Medal of these games, and is already the most successful British Female Paralympian of all time after winning Gold in the C5 3,000m Inidividual Pursuit earlier in the games.

Many Congratulations to Rob Davies who won ParalympicsGB’s 30th Gold Medal of the Paralympics in Rio 2016 today!

Rob triumphed in the Class 1 final this afternoon, beating South Korea’s Joo Young Dae 3 – 1, with scores of (14 – 2  4 – 11  11 – 9  11 – 5)

After the race, Rob said “I can’t believe I kept it together.  I have played Joo Young Dae twice in competition and lost both times.  I must thank everybody for their support.  We’ve been working hard behind the scenes and it has paid off.  I’m chuffed I managed to keep it together.”

Many Congratulations to Hollie Arnold who set a new World Record in the Javelin Throw F46 Final in Rio today winning Gold in 43.01m.

Afterwards, Hollie said “This has been my absolute dream – I cannot believe I am Paralympic Champion and Double World Champion.  It’s pretty surreal.  I didn’t expect to throw that far, but i’ve trained hard and rehab has made me even stronger in many ways.  It was just one of those days when everything went right.”

Hollie went on to say “I knew I had to go out there and perform my absolute best.  I wanted to put myself into a strong position and I think I led the whole way. I didn’t even think it was my last throw on world record effort.  So when it came up on the board as 43.01m I just thought ‘oh wow!’  I just burst into tears.  I never expected it to go that far!”

Many Congratulations to Stephen Miller who threw a whopping 31.93m for ParalympicsGB in the F32 Club Throw in Rio today, Winning a Bronze Medal.

Stephen said he hadn’t felt up-to-par a few days before the race, saying “I’ve had a very tough week and I didn’t know whether i’d be able to compete a few days ago, so to throw a season’s best means so much.” Stephen went on to say “I didn’t feel great and I couldn’t even stand up straight but I never give up and I was never going to pull out because the Paralympics means absolutely everything to me.”

Stephen went on to thank his coach and his mum, whom he said has always been by his side.  (This time, with a little help from Sir John Hall, the former Newcastle United owner, and an ice cream shop in Blyth!)

Many Congratulations to Georgie Hermitage, who raced superbly today in the T37 400m final winning another Gold Medal for ParalympicsGB.

Georgie looked totally focused before the race, practising in the scorching heat, and took control from an early stage, racing methodically and pushing strongly past the other competitors to win with a substantial lead.

After the race, Georgie said “This is My Preferred Event. I’m So Pleased I came back.  I knew everyone was expecting, so to come out and win is amazing.” Georgie held it together whilst being interviewed, even though she must have been exhausted after racing in such extreme heat, until she was asked about her daughter, when she broke down.  Georgie said “Everything’s for her, I want her to know that you can do anything if you set your mind to it.  I miss her so much…”

Many Congratulations to Ellie Simmonds who triumphed last night, winning Gold in the SM6 200m swimming medley.

After the race Hannah said: “The 100m is my favourite event – I have never been beaten over it and didn’t expect to be beaten over it. It was amazing to come here and compete in front of this massive crowd, it’s a magnificent stadium and I absolutely loved it out there. In my head winning one title was immense, it was fantastic in London, but you are a truly talented athlete if you can defend it. Now I feel the pressure is off.”

Kare said: “I am so happy. When I crossed the line it was like I had won because it’s been a really tough year. I’m so blessed and grateful I can share the podium with Hannah. I completely smashed my personal best so it’s an amazing day.”

Additionally, Kadeena Cox Won a Superb Gold in the Women’s C4-5 500m Track Cycling Event.

Kadeena also won a bronze medal in athletics 24 hours earlier, and she has now become the first Briton in 28 years to win medals in two sports at the same paralympics!

Before the race, Kadeena sat quietly, seemingly ‘getting in the zone’, which obviously worked, as she took off like a rocket at the start of the race, and looked powerful throughout.

Kadeena was emotional on the podium, and when the National Anthem started playing, you could see that she was trying to hold back the tears.

After the race, Kadeena said “I’m just so happy that i’ve finally done it and i’ve got so far.  This time two years ago I was at home, about to go into hospital to get my MS diagnosis. To have come this far in such a short period of time is just a relief.  I’m glad i’ve done it. “

Kadeena went on to say “I absolutely dug in and gave it everything.  I knew on my day i’d be good enough to beat anyone and i’ve done it.”

Many Congratulations to Ellie Robinson Who Won a Gold Yesterday Evening In the S6 50m Butterfly!

Ellie, who is 15, has a confident and relaxed attitude, which is already making her a media sensation.  After the race, Ellie said “I still can’t believe it.  I keep looking around to check they aren’t going to take it off me, it is so weird.  I didn’t think it was possible and I don’t think it is possible now – I feel like I am going to wake up and it is a dream.”  Congratulations Ellie!

Sprinter Jonnie Peacock successfully defended his T44 100m title last night, winning another gold medal for Great Britain.

Jonnie stormed to victory in 10.81 seconds, equalling the Paralympic record he set in Thursday’s heat.  Jonnie’s triumph helped ParalympicsGB take their medal tally to 27, including 12 golds.

After the race, Jonnie said “I just got to 40 metres then I kept pushing and that’s when I pulled away.  I wasn’t the favourite in that race but my experience came through.”  Congratulations Jonnie!

Jody Cundy triumphed to victory yesterday, winning his sixth Paralympic gold medal in the C4-5 kilo time trial setting a new Paralympic record in 1:02.473 to win his third Paralympic gold in cycling.

2016 Rio Paralympic Games - Day Two

After the race, Jody said “All I wanted to do was get out of the start gate, I was so nervous.  I managed to use that nervous energy to get me through at the end.”  Congratulations Jody!

Many Congratulations to Para-cyclist Sophie Thornhill and Pilot Helen Scott Who Won Gold in the Women’s B 1,000m Time-Trial this Afternoon.

Sophie and Helen set a Paralympic Record of 1:06.283, beating Dutch team Larissa Klaassen and Haleigh Dolman.

Speaking afterwards, Sophie said “I can’t believe it – gold is something i’ve dreamt of for so long and we have it.”  Well Done Sophie and Helen!

Also this afternoon, T44 competitor Stef Reid won a Silver Medal in the long jump, jumping 5.64m, but was beaten by France’s Marie-Amelie Le Fur, who set a new world record of 5.83m.

After the race, Stef said “It feels amazing to win another Paralympic Medal.  I was initially disappointed, but it took an amazing jump to take the gold medal today.  Marie’s whole series was very impressive.  Obviously the gold is what I was after, but I was proud with how I jumped and to be taking the silver medal home with me.  I’m still motivated and aiming to jump even further next year.  London 2017 is a target for me, but I will take a break and see what I need to work on.”

Plus this afternoon, Club Thrower Gemma Prescott Won a Bronze Medal in the F32 category, throwing a whopping 19.77m, to finish ahead of team-mate Abbie Hunnisett, who threw 19m.  Well Done Gemma!

Many Congratulations to Dame Sarah Storey, Who Has Just Won Her 12th Paralympic Gold Medal At The Rio 2016 Paralympics!

This makes Sarah the Most Successful British Female Paralympian of All Time by Winning Gold in the C5 3,000m Inidividual Pursuit.

Sarah has now overtaken the record medal haul set by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, with 11 medals.

After the race, Sarah said, “I’ve not thought about being the most decorated Paralympian until two days ago, Tanni’s still a hero for me.  To go quicker than London after having my daughter Louisa is the icing on the cake.  You can never underestimate anyone on the other side of the track.  It’s amazing and I don’t think it will sink in for a very long time.”

Many Congratulations to Megan Giglia, Who Has Just Won The First Gold Medal For Great Britain At The Rio 2016 Paralympics!

Megan raced superbly, beating opponent Jamie Whitmore from the USA to Gold in the Women’s C1 – 3  3,000m Individual Pursuit!  (Earlier, Megan had beaten her own World Record of 4:03.544).

After the race, when asked how she felt, Megan said “To be fair, it hasn’t sunk in yet.  All I know is that I wouldn’t be here without my team, the back up crew behind me here, my family and friends.  I only look forward to the future.  I didn’t think I would make it to Rio, I thought it was a bit ambitious but I thought I would give it a go.”

She went on to say “Within the British camp, the atmosphere is great, everyone is hyped up and ready to go.  I hope this will be the first of many golds.  I’ve still got three events to go, so we’ll have to see.”
