It is The Queen’s 88th Birthday today, and she is celebrating quietly in Windsor with The Royal Family.
A 41-gun Royal Salute was fired in Green Park, London, and a 62 gun-salute from the Tower of London.
The Queen’s Birthday is also officially celebrated each year in June with the ‘Trooping of the Colour’, which is a wonderful sight to behold.
The actual date of The Queen’s birthday is 21st April 1926.
The gun salute at Green Park was carried out by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery using 13-pounder World War One guns drawn by 71 horses.
The 62 gun-salute at the Tower of London was completed by the Honourable Artillery Company.
Salutes will also take place in Scotland, Wales and Ireland today.
A beautiful portrait of The Queen was recently unveiled, which was taken by David Bailey at Buckingham Palace in March.
The Queen looked wonderful in a dress designed by her loyal and talented dresser/designer Angela Kelly (who has worked with The Queen for over 12 years).
