BACKSTAGE

Gianluca Capannolo’s  Spring/Summer 2016 collection takes inspiration from iconic films with their unique female protagonists. Strong, revolutionary women who have influenced the designer’s work. The eclectic Julie Christie in “Petulia,” the passionate Anouk Aimée in “A Man and a Woman.” The eccentric Goldie Hawn in “Cactus Flower” and the dreamy Valentina Cortese in “Juliet of the Spirits.” The captivating  Faye Dunaway in “A Place for Lovers” and  the multiple personalities of Shirley Maclaine in “Woman Times Seven.”  Self assured Vanessa Redgrave in “Blowup” and sexy futuristic Jane Fonda in “Barbarella.” Magical Barbara Streisand in “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever,” and neorealist Melina Mercouri in “The Last Judgement.” And finally the liberated Anne Bancroft in “The Graduate.”

Like a trip to the 1960s  accompanied by these  iconic women, but re-interpreted through the geometric couture of Gianluca Capannolo. Dresses with both defined and fluid  lines and volumes, thanks to impeccable fabrics that include silk fil de coupé, gazar, terry cloth, pvc, moroccan crepe, raffia and tulle. In full summer colors: green, turquoise, orange, white, black and cobalt.
