Mr Putin said a joint agreement had been reached for a ceasefire by both parties during their six hours of discussions and expressed hope that the ceasefire could end civilian suffering and help contain a humanitarian crisis.  Mr Putin said “I express hope that these agreements will serve as a good basis for a cessation of military activity in the Idlib de-escalation zone and stop the suffering of the peaceful population and the growing humanitarian crisis.”

Mr Erdogan said: “We will work together to supply aid for the Syrians in need.”

Both Countries also agreed on a security corridor along the M4 road which covers an area 6 km north and 6 km south of the motorway. Joint patrols are to take place along the road shortly.

The Defence Ministers of Russia and Turkey will agree on the parameters of the corridor within the coming week.
